The Bible gave me nightmares as a boy. Decades later it found me at the lowest point of my life.
I was raised to believe I was born a sinner, and that my heart and my body couldn't be trusted. When I asked questions, I was told to be quiet and believe.
So I built the life I was supposed to build. Somewhere along the way I stopped recognizing the man living it.
At the lowest point I heard something thunderous within me: Isaiah 48. The house of Jacob, called by the name of Israel. It took me weeks to understand I was standing inside that story.
It took years to live what I'd understood. That's the work I do now with other people.
